The Stargate project, which will cost $500 billion to build AI infrastructure in the United States, is facing large and small challenges, such as the emergence of DeepSeek and funding issues.

On January 21, 2025, President Donald Trump announced a new company, “The Stargate,” that will invest up to $500 billion in the construction of AI infrastructure for Open AI in the United States, forming partnerships with Open AI, Oracle, SoftBank, and MGX. The primary purpose of this project is to build and develop AI, especially AGI, for the benefit of all of humanity. With its potential to keep American leadership in AI, create hundreds of thousands of jobs, and bring massive economic benefits to the world, this project promises a bright future, offering new opportunities for employment. 

However, on January 20, 2025, Chinese AI development start-up DeepSeek released the DeepSeek-R1 model and significantly impacted the U.S., not to mention globally. DeepSeek’s model training costs less than $6 million, considerably lower than Open AI’s o1 model, and even the DeepSeek-R1 model is open source. Some concerns about its security problems must be dealt with seriously, but DeepSeek has still come into the spotlight.

Not only does this DeepSeek issue raise alarms about the Stargate Project, but the project's shortcoming makes people question it. An interested party said they have no specific plan yet and could not even raise all the funds promised. And data centers built through this project will be used only for OpenAI. 

President Donald Trump said, “the largest AI infrastructure project by far in history” and expressed his expectation that this project will contribute significantly to the future of technology in the United States. It is expected that the United States will be able to solve these problems well and maintain its lead in the AI industry, ensuring our continued dominance in this crucial field.
